Objectives & Mission

With a committed investment of €15,000.00 from private investors, LAPI2S – the Laboratory of Privacy and Information Systems Security – was officially established in December 2021. Our mission is to provide a dedicated hub for research and collaboration, serving as a focal point where academics and industry leaders come together to address critical cybersecurity challenges facing both sectors. We offer a dynamic environment for Master’s and Ph.D. students from any private, public, national, or international university to engage in cutting-edge research and practical learning experiences.

Our core activities are organized into four key areas:

  1. Digital Forensics Training and Research: LAPI2S is dedicated to advancing techniques and methodologies in digital forensics, including the investigation and analysis of digital evidence to support legal proceedings. Our research focuses on developing novel tools and techniques for digital evidence acquisition, preservation, and analysis, with a particular emphasis on emerging technologies such as cloud computing, IoT, and blockchain.
  2. Data Analytics Training and Research: In an era of big data, LAPI2S is at the forefront of research in data analytics for cybersecurity applications. Our research spans the development of machine learning and data mining techniques for anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and threat intelligence. We collaborate with industry partners to apply data analytics to real-world cybersecurity challenges, such as network intrusion detection, malware analysis, and fraud detection.
  3. Cybersecurity Training and Research: As cyber threats continue to evolve in complexity and sophistication, LAPI2S is committed to advancing research in cybersecurity to stay ahead of emerging threats. Our research covers a wide range of topics, including network security, cryptography, secure software development, and human factors in cybersecurity. We collaborate with industry partners to develop practical solutions and best practices for enhancing cybersecurity resilience in organizations.
  4. Safe Setting Research Environment: LAPI2S provides a secure and controlled research environment for conducting experiments and evaluations in cybersecurity. Our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities enable researchers to simulate real-world cyber attacks and test defensive measures in a controlled setting. We collaborate with industry partners to validate and evaluate cybersecurity technologies and solutions, ensuring their effectiveness and reliability in practice.

In addition to our core activities, LAPI2S offers research opportunities for Doctoral Students in the following areas:

Secure IoT and Industrial Control Systems: With the proliferation of IoT devices and interconnected industrial systems, ensuring the security and resilience of these systems is of paramount importance. LAPI2S offers doctoral research opportunities to develop robust security mechanisms and protocols for securing IoT devices and industrial control systems against cyber threats and attacks.

Privacy-Preserving Technologies: In an age of increasing data privacy concerns, LAPI2S provides doctoral research opportunities in privacy-preserving technologies to protect sensitive information and personal data from unauthorized access and disclosure. Research focuses on techniques such as homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, and secure multiparty computation to enable secure and privacy-preserving data analysis and sharing.

Cyber Threat Intelligence and Information Sharing: LAPI2S offers doctoral research opportunities in cyber threat intelligence and information sharing to enhance situational awareness and proactive defense against cyber threats. Research focuses on leveraging machine learning, natural language processing, and data fusion techniques to analyze and correlate diverse sources of cyber threat data and intelligence, enabling organizations to make informed decisions and take timely actions to mitigate cyber risks.
